Wisconsin Historical Society to Open New Museum in Madison

The Wisconsin Historical Society will be able to exhibit more of its artifacts, accommodate more schoolchildren, and create interactive exhibits at a new Wisconsin history museum slated to open in 2026.

The new museum, which will be built adjacent to the state capital of Madison, will have an area of 100,000 square feet, doubling the amount of exhibition space available in the current museum.

The company was to raise at least $ 30 million in private funds in order to unlock $ 70 million in public funds to build the new museum. On October 5, the company announced that it had surpassed that target, with $ 34.9 million in private donations.

“By expanding our current space, we will be able to build a new history museum that will display and connect our stories with the 72 counties of Wisconsin and allow the Company to provide better access to our valuable Wisconsin history collections. and the United States, ”said Christian Overland, director and CEO of the Wisconsin Historical Society. “The future larger museum will serve more than double the number of students and families currently visiting the Wisconsin Historical Museum.”

The company is now starting to search for design companies for the new museum.
