To compete in the 2022 Wisconsin gubernatorial race.

“Work hard to make former Wisconsin congressman Sean Duffy very popular and competent to run for governor. He would be fantastic! Trump said in a statement released through his Save America PAC.

Duffy, 50, served four terms in the House before deciding to step down in 2019 and not run for a fifth term in 2020.

While in Congress, he was frequently present on cable news. His wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy, is also a well-known conservative voice on cable contributing to Fox News. The two first made national names on MTV’s “Real World”.

Both have defended Trump in the past, and Trump sang his praises in his letter to supporters and the media.

“A champion athlete, Sean loves the people of Wisconsin and would be virtually unbeatable. His wife, Rachel, is also an amazing person. They are both doing great, so it would be a big sacrifice, but hopefully it will be a sacrifice made for the great state of Wisconsin and its wonderful and hardworking people. Run Sean, run! (A little spin-off on the big Herschel Walker), ”Trump added, referring to the former football star he endorsed early last month for the Georgia Senate race.

When Duffy resigned, he explained that he quit after learning that his ninth child had heart disease. Previously, he served as a district attorney for eight years and also twice won the speed climbing competition at the World Lumberjack Championships, according to CNN.

Among the Republicans already in the running for governor is former Wisconsin lieutenant governor Rebecca Kleefisch, who announced her candidacy last month. She had served as state lieutenant governor under former governor Scott Walker (R-Wis.) From 2011 to 2019.

If Duffy enters the race, Trump’s endorsement for Duffy could be a big boost given the Evers narrowly won the 2018 gubernatorial race by a one-point margin. In early October, Cook Political Reports called Wisconsin’s race for governor a “lean Democrat.”

Trump won Wisconsin in the 2016 presidential race before losing it in 2020.
