Returning live performance at the Wisconsin Rapids Community Theater

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wisconsin (WSAW) – The show must go on! This weekend, the Wisconsin Rapids Community Theater (WRCT) has been hosting its first live performances in over 15 months.

At the Wisconsin Rapids Community Theater, the lights are on and the auditorium won’t be quiet.

They still plan to keep everyone safe with limited capacity, but that doesn’t stop them from getting excited.

“Only the energy that comes from the audience makes everything so much better here on stage,” actor Jeff Friday said.

Friday is one of the stars of this weekend’s plays, he said performing in front of an audience again was an experience like no other.

“The laughs you get, the gasps, the sighs, it’s all just an affirmation of the work you do on stage,” said Friday.

“Being able to bring joy to the community again through theater is something I’ve always loved to do,” actress Letty Demski said.

Over the past 15 months, the theater has mainly presented virtual performances, plays have been videotaped and uploaded.

“We had to get creative immediately on how we were going to provide entertainment and performing arts to the Wisconsin Rapids community,” said Tim Young, executive director of the Wisconsin Rapids Community Theater.

But at a January meeting, the board decided that live performances would return by May.

“Some people tiptoe back into big groups, so we understand that our job is to come up with our calendar of events like we always do,” said Young.

Normally the theater can seat 223 people and now it’s down to 66. The paper covers represent “ghost seats” paid for by local businesses.

Getting back on stage is a dream come true for everyone.

“We have a big sigh of relief and everyone just took a deep breath and ran on stage and came back on stage, there are a lot of great pros here,” ‘Al was Right’ director Mike said. Barrett.

This weekend will be the first of many community theater performances throughout the year.

‘Al was Right’ will be played on Friday May 21 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday May 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday May 23 at 2:00 p.m.
