Our Fat Free and Dolphin Safe Milwaukee Events Calendar is packed with things to do, but only a handful of events are worthy of the noble honor of “Recommended recording “ (patent pending). Here are our recommendations for the period from November 8 to 14, 2021.
Jill Sobule + Hallowtribe @ Shank Hall
“I was never really angry or resentful of Katy herself. In fact, I was a little happy that I was no longer the daughter of ‘Kissed A Girl’. It was musician Jill Sobule in 2009, talking about Katy Perry’s 2008 hit, “I Kissed A Girl”. You see, over a decade ago, Sobule struck the big bang with her own song called “I kissed a girl”. So yes, Jill Sobule is no longer the daughter of “Kissed A Girl”; for further proof, just look at the title of his 2018 album: Nostalgia kills.
Movie night: “Dumb & Dumber” @ Lakefront Brewery
A free screening of the years 1994 Dumb & Dumber on Lakefront Brewery’s 165-inch projection screen? Food and drinks available all night? So you’re telling us there’s a chance it won’t be another boring Tuesday night? Count us on.

Crafty Cow will also be running a special “Cheap Date” offer, which includes two entrees, an appetizer and two drinks for just $ 29. Tonight’s episode stars Americana singer-songwriter Derek Pritzl and guitarist Andrew Koenig.

Protomartyr + Melkbelly @ Cactus Club
Although Protomartyr has been around since 2008, the post-punk Detroit project did not erupt until late 2015. That year, Protomartyr’s third feature film, Agent intelligence, was released to critical acclaim as well as a warm welcome from an ever-growing fan base. The band followed this up with yet another best of 2017. Decent parents, and the wonderful of last year Ultimate success today. After a few postponements, this Cactus Club show finally takes place! So don’t miss it!
Fixx Ballroom + Fastball @ Turner Hall
Credentials (record release) + Resurrectionists, Kendraplex @ X-Ray Arcade
Milwaukee’s experimental / noise / post-punk band Credentials may be hitting the public’s radar, but they’ve been walking around for a few years. A collection of demos appeared on Bandcamp in May 2019, and the band performed a handful of shows that year as well. Luckily for the city, the pandemic hasn’t crushed the group’s momentum; tonight Credentials will be celebrating the release of their debut album, Why isn’t my arm a lilac tree?
Mr. Nice Guy presents: SSAANN + Toadskin, The Midnight Purchase, The Panoptics @ Cactus Club
Bill Burr @ Miller High Life Theater (7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. shows)
Although Bill Burr is known and loved around the world, the legendary comedian and surprisingly talented actor has a special connection to Milwaukee. In 2017, he praised the Pfister Hotel, Riverside Theater, Harley-Davidson Museum, The Vanguard, Milwaukee beer and the city’s comedy crowds in his Monday morning podcast. The fact that he regularly performs in sold-out theaters when he comes to town probably adds to Burr’s loving feelings for Milwaukee.
Milwaukee Comic Con @ Wisconsin State Fair Park
See! Over 200 tables of comics, collectibles, characters and more will be available at Milwaukee Comic Con 2021! And hey! Kids are free and everyone gets a free comic at the door!
Jeremy Pinnell + The Liar Trial @ Anodyne Walker’s Point Roastery
Yes, this show is a great opportunity to see Kentucky country artist Jeremy Pinnell up close, but it’s also your last chance to see country band from Milwaukee Liar’s Trial. “After 10 years, four albums and an almost two-year hiatus from COVID, we have decided to quit,” the group tells us. “Come for the funeral, stay for the BYO cake and shovel, because we have a body to bury.”
Tiki Takedown @ Turner Hall Ballroom
After a long postponement linked to the pandemic, Tiki Takedown is officially back! From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., the Turner Hall Ballroom will host mixologists from various local bars and restaurants, who will serve up samples of handcrafted tiki cocktails as they compete for the coveted Tiki Takedown Trophy and the Tiki Master title.
