INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – With all due respect to draft hopefuls here this week at the NFL Scouting Combine, interest in the Packers revolves around Aaron Rodgers’ future.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said Tuesday there was nothing new to report on Rodgers. He hopes to have clarity by the start of the league’s new year on March 16.
“Yes, I hope so,” Gutekunst told reporters on Tuesday. “There are a lot of decisions to be made before that, so for me it would be helpful. I think we would know something before. It’s really no different every year. As you enter this period, there are just a lot of unknowns. You always have free agents that you’re trying to bring back, and you don’t know how it’s going to go and you have to have a plan B, a plan C and those things. So it’s really no different, it gets a lot of attention because of the player and his status, but it’s really no different.
Gutekunst said the situations of Rodgers and potential free agent Davante Adams are completely separate. Gutekunst added that he had “constant communication” with Adams.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is scheduled to meet with reporters Wednesday in Indianapolis.
