MSOC will play the last Road Match of the regular season


The Marquette University men’s soccer team (6-7-1, 3-4-1 BIG EAST) will play their final road game of the BIG EAST regular season this weekend. The Golden Eagles face the St. John’s Red Storm on Saturday, October 23 at 4:00 p.m. CST at Belson Stadium. MU enters Saturday’s game with just two regular season games remaining, as the two teams battle to advance to the conference tournament.

After a 2-0 start at BIG EAST, St. John’s (8-4-2, 3-2-2 BIG EAST) has earned just one win in their last five games and are coming off a 2 -1 2OT loss of road at # 2 Georgetown. The Red Storm are currently fifth in the conference standings with 11 points, one point ahead of Marquette.

The St. John’s defense has allowed their opponent one goal or less in 11 of 14 games this year. The Red Storm are led by senior midfielder / defender Brandon Knapp, who has a best total of 13 points with four goals and five assists. In the net, junior redshirt Luka Gavran has allowed just nine goals in 14 matches. He also leads the nation with eight shutouts.

Mirsberger Nets winner of the match against DePaul

MU redshirt second year defender Alex Mirsberger chose the right time to score his first goal of the season. In the team’s Oct. 20 victory over DePaul, the Brookfield, Wisconsin native scored the game’s only goal, a 58th-minute header from a corner kick from Beto Soto. It was the second goal of Mirsberger’s career.

Andrade emerges as the best team leader

Junior Midfielder Redshirt Zyan Andrade has established himself as one of Marquette’s top playmakers this season, currently tied as the BIG EAST leader in assists with five. The Brazil native has collected four assists in the last seven games for the Golden Eagles, including two in the team’s 3-1 win at Seton Hall. In conference alone, Andrade’s four assists put him atop the BIG EAST rankings.
