Milwaukee’s The Starling wedding and event venue planned in the Third Quarter

A new event location, The Starling, is planned in Historic Third District of the former SURG on the Water space, 102 N. Water St.

The Starling, set to open in April, is co-owned by Tyler Curran and Ramsey Renno. They also have two event spaces at Walker’s Point: Ivy House, 906 S. Barclay St., and Filament, 131 W. Seeboth St.

“We are looking to expand and provide more options, not only for couples in Milwaukee, but for corporate and non-profit meetings and events,” Curran said. “It’s just an amazing place.”

Curran said they plan to offer pop-up dinners and other events open to the public as well.

The 5,500 square foot space can accommodate up to 200 people and features an outdoor promenade overlooking the Milwaukee River.

Both said they are updating the space to make it modern and colorful. Authorization is still pending.

“We want it to work well in the third quarter, as well as in the natural ambience of the river,” said Renno. “We knew it was a rough diamond and we had to bring it in 2021. We are thrilled with this opportunity.”

The space had been occupied by restaurant group SURG since 2010. It opened as Ryan Braun’s Graffito, but closed three years later.

The space opened as a SURG on the Water event space in 2014. It closed permanently in the summer of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We had to shut it down when we realized COVID was going to be there for a while,” said Mike Polaski, owner of restaurant group SURG. “It wasn’t something we wanted to do, but it was something we had to do.”
