MILWAUKEE – The seven-time Milwaukee Wave champion took on new Major Arena Soccer League team Mexico’s Chihuahua Savage on Friday night at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena and was able to earn his first win in 675 days.
“The way things have gone this season is really good,” said head coach Giuiano Oliviero. “I am extremely happy and proud for all the players, they worked so hard to get this first win.”
The wave was able to find the offense thanks to its defensive solidity by finding the back of the net on several counterattack chances. Gordy Gurson managed to score the first goal of the game after Javier Steinwascher did the dirty work to ensure Gurson had the opportunity to complete a perfect offensive streak for the Wave.
Second-half goals from Milwaukee‘s Derek Huffman, Ian Bennett and Gordy Gurson were perfectly placed in Savage’s goal to limit any potential comeback for the Mexico team.
“We’re going to carry that momentum to Dallas and continue to move up the conversation,” Oliviero added. Sunday is going to be great.”
The Wave takes on the Dallas Sidekicks, Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
