Our FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY continues for much of the day… Some areas of the Northwoods look like an ice rink right now. A significant accumulation of ice, greater than 1/4 inch, will make travel very difficult. The ice can weigh down tree branches and power lines, causing scattered power outages. Snow will also fall in northern Wisconsin. Above the ice, 1 to 4 inches of snow could accumulate through tonight. If you’re planning to travel to northern Wisconsin today, allow plenty of time and allow yourself plenty of distance.

Further south in the Fox Valley and by the lake, temperatures are just mild enough to see all the torrential rain. Lots of people have already picked up an inch, so you can see standing water in some places. Homeowners may consider keeping an eye on their basements for any water intrusion. Another 0.25″ to 0.50″ of rain is possible, with the rain easing to lighter showers in the afternoon.

This strong spring storm will end tomorrow morning and the strong north-northeast winds will begin to subside. Skies will clear tomorrow evening. Some sun will shine Friday morning, followed by more cloud. There is a chance of showers or light winter mixing until Friday evening. Fortunately, the weekend promises to be dry, but it will be colder with highs in the 30s.
