MILWAUKEE (AP) – Perhaps the most surprising part of the Milwaukee Brewers’ run for the NL Central title is that they won it without a typical Christian Yelich season. The NL’s 2018 MVP missed much of the first half with low back strain and didn’t hit with much power on his return. He’ll have a chance to make up for it as the Brewers seek their first World Series title, though he’s not so worried about his personal new start. Milwaukee opens his fourth straight playoff appearance, a franchise record, on Friday when he welcomes NL Eastern champ Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of an NL Division Series.

MILWAUKEE (AP) – Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Corbin Burnes starts NLDS Game 1 with the Atlanta Braves on Friday. The Brewers say Burnes will start the opener and right-hander Brandon Woodruff will start Game 2 on Saturday. The Braves will face right-hander Charlie Morton for Game 1 and left-hander Max Fried for Game 2. Burnes led the National League in ERA this season and recorded 234 strikeouts and just 34 walks in 167 innings.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The exhibition game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies was suspended after three quarters when a fire alarm went off, resulting in the evacuation of FedExForum. At the time of the delay, the Grizzlies were leading 87-77 in the first game of the preseason for both teams. Officials said the problem was a false alarm caused by a sprinkler in a non-public area. The delay was just over an hour after the alarm sounded and the match was stopped.

NEW YORK (AP) – Baseball’s playoffs are returning to their pre-pandemic format a year after COVID-19 confined most of the action last October to empty stadiums at neutral venues. Seeing and hearing the fans is a welcome change for players who made it through last year’s playoffs providing their own energy on a stage normally fueled by the buzz created by the live audience. If the end of this regular season is any indication, the stadiums will be jam-packed this playoffs.
