City of Milwaukee COVID-19 Weekly Update

MILWAUKEE – This week’s charge rate is at the lowest value on record since the start of the pandemic. At 9.8 per 100,000 people, this is the first time that this measure has fallen into the “low transmission” category. The percentage of positive tests continues to decrease and remains in the “low transmission” category with 1.0% of tests being positive.

“This is an achievement worth celebrating,” said Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson. “Our efforts to crush COVID-19 and vaccinate Milwaukeeans continue, but this is an important milestone for the city of Milwaukee. Our residents should be proud of the work they have done to get us to this point.

Growth in immunization rates continues to climb. Currently, 46.4% of adults in Milwaukee are fully immunized and 52.1% have received at least their first dose. To increase confidence in the vaccine, the Milwaukee Health Department expects community members to become ambassadors who can educate and reassure their personal networks.

The COVID Crew Crush is for people who are passionate about sharing reputable educational and information sources with their communities regarding the COVID-19 vaccine and tackling the spread of disinformation.

On Tuesday, June 29, the Crush COVID Crew will host two 1.5-hour virtual briefings via Zoom at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The virtual briefings will provide information, tools, and resources from Milwaukee Health Department staff and other medical experts so Ambassadors can feel confident talking to their personal networks about the COVID-19 vaccine. You can find more information and registration links at Milwaukee.gov/CrushCOVIDtoolkit.

In addition, vaccination efforts continue with mobile clinics throughout the city. On Saturday, vaccines will be available at the Safe Summer Kick-Off event on the 106th and Jonen Streets from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, MHD will be vaccinated at The Oasis, 3120 W. Villard Avenue, 2 pm to 6 pm. for the Homer Blow Foundation’s 26th Annual Children’s Birthday Party.

On Sunday, the Summerfest drive-thru vaccination clinic returns from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside the south gates of the festival grounds. Summerfest will generously draw a prize package that includes a 9-day Power Pass, valid for all festival days, and a bundle of festival merchandise. Everyone who receives a vaccine at Summerfest on Sunday will be registered and the winner will be chosen on Monday June 28th.

The list of all mobile immunization clinics for the coming week is attached and can be viewed at Milwaukee.gov/COVIDvax. In the future, vaccination clinics will be closed from Friday July 2 to Monday July 5 on the occasion of Independence Day weekend.
