Charleston Place appoints Master Chef Olivier Gaupin as Culinary Director

Charleston Place, a newly independent historic hotel located in the heart of historic Charleston, is pleased to welcome Master Chef Olivier Gaupin to its team as Culinary Director, effective immediately.

Master Chef Gaupin, one of only two chefs in South Carolina to hold this distinguished title, has followed the heritage of his family of great chefs to pursue a career in the culinary field and has shared his talents for more than 25 years. Originally from Orleans, France, and a graduate of the French school CFA Charles Peguy, Chef Gaupin’s international career highlights include serving as chef de partie at the Michelin-rated Hotel Negresco in Nice, France. , and chef de partie at the famous Hotel Stuva Colani in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

Chef Gaupin has helmed the kitchens of some of the country’s most famous restaurants and hotels, including the Provence Restaurant in Washington DC, under the direction of Yannick Cam, the Pfister Hotel Milwaukee Wisconsin, the Ritz-Carlton Atlanta, the Ritz-Carlton St. Louis, Watercolor Inn and Resort and Alys Beach Resort, Florida. Gaupin joins The Charleston Place from his most recent roles at Benchmark Global Hospitality and Loews Hotels & Co., where his primary leadership responsibilities included hotel culinary direction, overseeing menu development, executing new food and beverage, sustainability initiatives and more.

In his new role as Culinary Director of Charleston Place, Chef Gaupin will lead the design of concepts for the hotel’s many restaurants and catering businesses and develop menus that celebrate the seasons and his local community, while helping to train and to inspire the next generation of culinary chefs.
