As major league teams were scheduled to add two players to their rosters on Thursday, the Milwaukee Brewers recalled outfielder Esteury Ruiz and right-hander Luis Perdomo from Triple-A Nashville.
The rosters grow each year on September 1, and in 2022 two players were to be added – but teams cannot carry more than 14 pitchers. Perdomo gives the Brewers the maximum.
Ruiz was acquired in the trade that sent Josh Hader to San Diego. The speedy outfielder made his MLB debut earlier this year with the Padres. Appearing in 14 games, he went 6 for 27 (.222) with a stolen base. In 22 games for Nashville, Ruiz is down .326/.383/.395 with 10 interceptions. He has played 99 total minor league games this season, including 49 in Double-A, and he is 0.332/0.450/0.523 with 70 steals.
Perdomo appeared in seven games for Milwaukee in 2022, allowing two runs — one earned — in 10 1/3 innings on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts. In 24 games with the Sounds, he has a 2.67 ERA, .824 WHIP and 9.8 K/9s in 30 1/3 innings.
Milwaukee opens a four-game series at Arizona on Thursday night. Every game can be seen on Bally Sports Wisconsin, the Bally Sports app or Bally Sports+ beginning with Brewers Live at 8 p.m. Thursday.
