39 vehicles involved in series of pile-ups in Wisconsin | News

Hazardous winter driving conditions are responsible for a series of pile-up crashes Friday involving 39 vehicles in central Wisconsin, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Ten people were injured, according to CNN affiliate WAOW, citing the Wisconsin State Patrol.

“The injured have been transported to local hospitals. The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time,” the official said. Wisconsin State Patrol tweeted Friday night.

US 51 was cleared, according to 511 Wisconsin, but it had been closed in both directions for several hours as crews got people to safety.

A small silver car was reportedly overturned on its roof, and tractor-trailers could have been seen jacking into a ditch, WAOW’s Isak Dinesen reported.

Some people had to be pulled from their vehicles, WAOW reported. Video showed other people, including children, getting out of their cars and walking, apparently unharmed, as they waited for help to arrive.

A bus was brought in to transport those stranded on the road, WAOW reported.

The incidents are still being investigated by state, county and local authorities, the Wisconsin State Patrol said Friday evening.

the National Weather Service warned on Friday evening of wintry conditions creating dangerous travel due to “rapid reductions in visibility”. He urged people to exercise caution.
